1 m² free desk-space

I recently discovered that my stock options actually had some value, (sic!) and sold all of them. This gave me some unexpected cash that I promptly invested in a new monitor. Its a 24″ Dell 2405fpw. Now I could get rid of a 21″ Dell and a 17″ Sony monitor sitting on my desk. As a side effect, I can also connect both my Linux-box and my G4 Mac, and easily switch between them. Still, It was annoying to have two sets of “keyboard and mouse”, (also the Logitech mouse for the mac was slightly broken) so I bought a small USB-switch to allow both computers to share them. Great! More than 1 m² liberated. Actually at a low cost if you take into account the cost of a m² of the house, or almost free compared to the cost of building another m²!

Now, there was a slight problem with Xorg, 2405fpw and Nvidia FX5200 DVI-I. I had to use a custom modeline to get it to work.

One of these 2 will do the job:

Modeline “1920×1200” 87.66 1920 1952 2280 2312 1200 1227 1233 1261 interlace
Modeline “1920×1200” 92.473920 1920 1992 2192 2464 1200 1209 1217 1251 -HSync +VSync interlaceAlso, in the “Device” section:
Option “ConnectedMonitor” “DFP”
Option “IgnoreEDID” “true”

If you don’t have an FX5xxx-series card, there are better modelines for you.
